SURFACES: the best new band you’ve never heard of
It’s finally summertime. You’re out in the garden, drinking a cold beer on your deck chair, wondering what song to blast out of your speakers. And here, I introduce you to your new musical obsession: SURFACES.
Optimistic, charming and joyous, the Texas based electro-pop duo consist of musicians Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki. The two met online whilst studying at different universities in the USA. Having been compared to the likes of Rex Orange Country and Boy Pablo, the duo have released critically acclaimed music including their 2017 debut album: SURF.
And now, some well deserved recognition is finally approaching the duo. After gaining mainstream popularity on TikTok, their single Sunday Best hit the Top 40 in the UK, USA, France, Canada and Australia, as well as reaching the Top 100 in many others. Riding on this wave of success, they made their TV debut - in early March 2020 - on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Taking influence from a wide range of genres: reggae, techno, indie rock, EDM and even calypso, Surfaces perfectly channel the glee of summertime into the slickest, jazziest music. Their bliss filled tunes are always ready to pick the mood up with plenty of feel-good vibes and stark electric jangle.
Now with a chart hit under their belt and many more to come, Surfaces show promise as one of the leading new bands of 2020.
...as summer time is soon imminent, these are DEFINITELY a band to check out...
